Scientists from the University of California Santa Barbara and Berkeley present on a collaboratively built AI-based global model which uses machine learning to predict regional plastic production, consumption and waste under different policy scenarios. Available as an online web-based interactive tool, this open-source software allows policymakers to define and evaluate their own highly specific policy options. In this short presentation they will demonstrate the tool through live simulation of public policies, looking at repercussions on global mismanaged plastic pollution and global warming. They will then invite participants to further explore the tool through their own policy questions. Opening remarks will be given by UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for the Ocean, Ambassador Peter Thomson.
